Addressing the Envelope Situation

I recently signed up for a Calligraphy class at Samford University in Birmingham with great aspirations that someday my envelopes might look something like this . . .

{source}

Let’s just say it will be awhile before that happens! I truly enjoyed the 2 hours of near silence each week in class spent working on perfecting my calligraphy, but it takes practice. With two little ones, finding the time to practice is challenging! Not to mention the risk I would be taking having an open bottle of black ink sitting around amidst trains, cars and footballs!

Meantime, here are some trends in addressing envelopes if you are lacking in time like myself, but desire a custom look.

1.You could use a collection of stamps that add up to the current postage rate. On a  wedding invitation envelope, for example, the stamps could represent different things about you as a couple such as hobbies, hometowns, etc. {source}

2.Create custom postage for a variety of occasions, you can choose from a large selection of pre-made designs or use one of your own pictures. {source}

3.Sometimes something as simple as placing the return address in an unexpected place will do the trick. {source}

4.Use a stamp, in this case one in the shape of a hanging tag, as a frame for writing the address. {source}

5.Wrap around stickers add something special to the front and the back of an envelope. A great way to save time because the return address can be pre-printed. {source}

6.Self-inking address stamps are an easy way to personalize an envelope. You can choose from a variety of new designs and fonts. {source}

Trick or Treat | DIY Halloween Ideas

It is officially Fall, no bones about it! That means Halloween will be here before you know it! Halloween is all about tricks and treats and I have a little bit of both for our friends at school this year.

Don’t be fooled, these bones are actually pretzels with mini marshmallows dipped in white chocolate. I know the kids at school will love these, and to be honest so did I! I may have tested a couple while I was making them.

I love to bring a little unexpected treat to my son’s teachers. It is getting cooler, but during fall in Alabama, the temperature still hangs around 70-80 degrees in the afternoon. When I go to pick my son up the teachers and kids are often out on the playground and this will be a refreshing treat!

Visit the HollyDays website to find these and many more Halloween gift stickers and tags to personalize your tricks and treats.

What’s for Dinner?

I used to dread that question  . . . what’s for dinner? I love to cook and actually like grocery shopping, but deciding what to make is something I could do without. I was so blessed after we had Emme to have friends and family bring us dinner just about every other night for six weeks. Yes, six weeks, and it was amazing! I knew that couldn’t and wouldn’t last forever so I had to figure out how I was going to get back into the kitchen while managing two year old and a newborn.

A good friend of mine shared her strategy for doing exactly that, she suggested creating a monthly menu. At first I thought, I have trouble deciding what to make for dinner tomorrow let alone 3 weeks from now, but it really helps! It eliminated that dreaded question, time spent each week deciding what to make, and last minute trips to the store for ingredients. Plus those multiple trips to the store got increasingly challenging with two kids in the cart!

Holly was gracious enough to use her time away from unpacking boxes to design this printable calendar for October. This is what I will be using to create my monthly menu. There are two different color choices, just click on the link below each image to print your calendar.

Each month I will also be sharing one recipe from my dinner menu with you. I of course have some ‘reliable’ options on my monthly menu, but I also love to try new recipes. Don’t worry, I will let my husband be the guinea pig for testing those before I share them with you. Check back soon for October’s recipe!

Home Update | Instagram Fun

We made the move over the weekend and I’m exhausted! It is starting to look like home, but we still have lots of boxes to go through. We moved into a rental house and we are planning on being here for about a year as we build our new house. Here are some photos from the weekend.

Oh, by the way. I am now the proud new owner of an iPhone 5. Seriously, this is my first iPhone and I’m in love. Do you Instagram? I do now! Follow me: shophollydays

I’m really excited because Jen has a great post coming tomorrow! She is going to start being a regular contributor on the blog.

Have a great day!
