Party + Event Planning: A Little Series

party planning series

 I started the thought process this week: My little one, (I call her “LB” for “Little Bit” as so many of you probably call your little ones) is almost another year older!

{I didn’t realize it was such a popular nickname, I just picked it out as I looked at her when she was a fresh new baby, 5lbs 7oz, a tiny “little bit”, so that was her nickname that stuck right away. To prove my point, here she is, 11 days old, the first day her Daddy went back to work at his office, next to a normal 8.5×11″ piece of paper wearing preemie clothes that were falling off of her. So tiny!}

I am totally off track right now, but I guess I felt I needed to tell you who I
am talking about when I refer to “LB”. Now, my friends, you will know!

Anyway, where was I?

I started the thought process this week: LB is going to be 4 soon! What, I am going to have a 4 year old?! Really, it is so true. So, with exactly 3 months until the big 4th birthday, that’s where my party planning begins. 3 months is a good range for me in the birthday party planning process.

I picked up some ribbon and fabric yesterday. They all work with my vision of her 4th birthday. I love fabric, I’m not much of a seamstress. Yes, I may have won our school’s 4-H sewing competition in 4th grade, but that about wraps up my sewing career. I think I am a patient person until I am sitting in front of this machine with my foot on the pedal thinking “when is this going to be over?” I’m not cut out for a sewing career. I do it a little for my daughter, but that is about it. I love fabric for its color, patterns, texture and possibilities…

I’m not going into much detail today, but just wanted to let you know about our upcoming party planning series! I’m really excited because I am a planner and I love to help you make your parties and events special. By thinking about an event well in advance and having a strategic plan, most times you will have a less stressful event and you will be a happy hostess! I’ll walk through some easy steps to help your next event be less stressful and more organized. We’ll have a post a week about it until we wrap it up!

Have a great weekend!

A “Reel” Fun Birthday Party

My good friend, Donna, hosted her daughter’s 3rd birthday party at her house last weekend. It turned out so cute, but this was no surprise, she is very creative. It was a drive-in movie themed party complete with popcorn, candy and glow sticks.

Sticking with the theme, the party was BYOC, bring your own car. The kids were adorable lined up on their cars and bikes munching on popcorn and watching the movie. Everything was so cute it was hard to choose my favorite things, but here are a few highlights:

Drive-In Movie Party by HollyDays

The sign on the front door directed traffic to the back yard for the feature presentation. The party favors were boxes of movie candy with a custom film strip sticker that read, “Thanks for coming, it’s been REEL fun! Love, Avery”. In keeping with the theme the cupcakes were topped with marshmallows to look like little buckets of popcorn. The polka dot balloons stood in galvanized buckets full of popcorn and added a pop of color on the tables.

I just couldn’t resist posting this picture. I love seeing all the kids lined up munching on popcorn completely enthralled with the movie. You never would have known that five minutes before they were running around the yard pumped full of cupcakes and Capri-Suns. This is my goal for our next birthday party!

Tutus & Bow Ties Party

My daughter turned 3 just a couple weeks ago. You may have seen some of these pictures last week on Pizzazzerie. If you missed them, here they are, plus a few more. Wow, it seems like I was just planning her 2nd Birthday Party, time does pass so quickly! Karidyn LOVES wearing a tutu so when it came to a party theme this year, it was an easy decision to do a tutu party. What is fun about this party theme is that it is more of a dress up party and less of a dance class party. I know that when she starts taking ballet, she will want a “real” ballet party, so that’s when we will go all out with a ballet instructor, etc. but this is more of a fun playful party for all the girls and the little boys. Since she has several little boy friends, we didn’t want to leave them out, so we added the adorable bow ties to make the theme just perfect for her and her friends! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the party:

Thanks for letting me share all the party pictures!

Hippity Hoppity Easter Party

Hippity hoppity, Easter is on its way and with Jen’s little boy’s birthday falling on Easter weekend this year, she decided to have an Easter Egg Hunt birthday for him. It was so cute and may give you some inspiration for your Easter egg hunt this weekend…

Here’s the party story as told by Jen:

I loved the way it turned out, it was so fresh looking with the colors and gingham!

I found some chalk eggs in a plastic egg carton for the favors and we made custom favor stickers to put on top.

The kids lunches were served  in a gable box to make it as simple as possible, they can just plop down and eat. We served egg shaped PB&J (in the gingham bag), Goldfish, a Buddy Fruit and juice box.

We had the buckets to use for the egg hunt.

Striped straws just make everything cuter!

The adults snacked on some veggies, potato salad, and mini ham sandwiches on sweet potato biscuits. Then we all shared some Easter bunny cupcakes for dessert along with haystacks made to look like birds nests.

Happy 2nd Birthday Tucker!

The chairs were bales of hay!

The birthday girl’s seat with one of our personalized plates that coordinated with the party
{they make great keepsakes for the birthday boy/girl}

She used glass Starbucks Coffee Frappuccino Jars for the milk bottles.
A good way to recycle the jars (especially since she has a friend who saved them up for her.)
She added our cute coordinating stickers and stripey straws and they were oh so cute!

{pretty white flowers in mason jars}

{Cupcakes with our cupcake wrappers & toppers}

and direct them to the party in the backyard.

Parade Party {Part 2}

I am so excited today because I have two fun things to write about…. first…This is part two of the Parade Party I had for my daughter.  If you missed it, part 1 is HERE.

Second… we have an AWESOME giveaway for a LIFETIME membership to an online photography forum, Clickin Moms… so watch out below at the end of our post for how to win!

Now to more of the party photos and credits…

Party Gazebo

Picnic Tables with the Birthday Girl’s Plate that coordinates with the party theme and provides a keepsake of the party.  Also, parade “flags” were set out as centerpieces.  They were used during the parade for the children and adults to wave.

We put a “lunch” sticker on the lunch boxes for the children

Inside the box… look how yummy and cute cheese puffs are repackaged…
the orange matched the party colors, but they are SO messy for 2-year-olds!
Sandwiches were wrapped with parchment and tied with Bakers Twine.

On to the parade!
We used white boxes for parade “supplies”
and added a sticker to the front as well as name tags.

Parade goodies… Bubbles & Tambourine!

Karidyn’s older cousins carried the parade banner sign at the front of the parade!

Here we are having fun at the parade!
The park had a sidewalk that looped around the entire park, so one trip around the circle with our instruments, flags and bubbles was perfect for the children.

We just had the most fun at the party.  I have to say it gets more fun every year as she is able to enjoy the party more and since she loves parades so much, it was perfect for her.  I encourage you to really think about something that your child would love… be creative- do they have a favorite book, food, toy?  Think out of the box!
