What’s for Dinner?

I used to dread that question  . . . what’s for dinner? I love to cook and actually like grocery shopping, but deciding what to make is something I could do without. I was so blessed after we had Emme to have friends and family bring us dinner just about every other night for six weeks. Yes, six weeks, and it was amazing! I knew that couldn’t and wouldn’t last forever so I had to figure out how I was going to get back into the kitchen while managing two year old and a newborn.

A good friend of mine shared her strategy for doing exactly that, she suggested creating a monthly menu. At first I thought, I have trouble deciding what to make for dinner tomorrow let alone 3 weeks from now, but it really helps! It eliminated that dreaded question, time spent each week deciding what to make, and last minute trips to the store for ingredients. Plus those multiple trips to the store got increasingly challenging with two kids in the cart!

Holly was gracious enough to use her time away from unpacking boxes to design this printable calendar for October. This is what I will be using to create my monthly menu. There are two different color choices, just click on the link below each image to print your calendar.

Each month I will also be sharing one recipe from my dinner menu with you. I of course have some ‘reliable’ options on my monthly menu, but I also love to try new recipes. Don’t worry, I will let my husband be the guinea pig for testing those before I share them with you. Check back soon for October’s recipe!

Announcing Mary Emerson | Custom Birth Announcements

I would like to officially announce the birth of Mary Emerson Bethune!

I am sending out our precious custom birth announcements to all our family and friends this week. I love going out to our mailbox and discovering something unexpected like an announcement, note or invitation hidden among all those magazines, bills, and advertisements. I could think of no better way than to share the birth our little girl than with a little snail mail.

Holly and I began discussing the design casually before Emme was born. I wanted the announcement to reflect our nursery and our sweet little girl. The majority of our family and a lot of our friends live outside the state of Alabama and are unable to come to our home and meet Emme. I wanted them to get a sense of her when they opened the envelope. I know you’re thinking that is a lot for one 5×7 piece of card stock! This announcement does exactly that, it is soft, sweet, classic and current with a southern flare.

It is made up of 3 parts; a 5×7 felt stock, a small square pictureand a kraft scalloped edge nameplate. A specialty printer helped us with the nameplates. They were screened with white paint on kraft paper stock. The nameplates came to us with straight edges and we used a punch to create the scalloped lace edge. This was a perfect solution to the challenge of including her full name as well as her nickname, which we included in the description of her date and time of birth, length and weight.

There is nothing more southern than a monogram, except for maybe sweet tea, and so one had to be included. It found its place on the custom address labels that were placed on the kraft envelopes. I used a white gel pen to address the envelopes and my husband, being the sweet guy he is, got the privilege of sealing all the envelopes.

I am grateful to Holly for continually being able to translate my thoughts into beautifully crafted stationery, and I am so happy anticipating the many smiles this little piece of mail will bring to our family and friends.

From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another. John 1:16

Home Update | Instagram Fun

We made the move over the weekend and I’m exhausted! It is starting to look like home, but we still have lots of boxes to go through. We moved into a rental house and we are planning on being here for about a year as we build our new house. Here are some photos from the weekend.

Oh, by the way. I am now the proud new owner of an iPhone 5. Seriously, this is my first iPhone and I’m in love. Do you Instagram? I do now! Follow me: shophollydays

I’m really excited because Jen has a great post coming tomorrow! She is going to start being a regular contributor on the blog.

Have a great day!

HollyDays Behind the Scenes

Well friends, today as you read this, it is officially our moving day. Our boxes are being stacked onto trucks and our furniture loaded. I took a few pictures of things around the office before we started packing and I wanted to share them with you so you could see our space. I had it filled with colorful things that inspired me!

Our phones will be down for a couple days, but should be back up on Monday. You can still leave a message and we’ll return your call. Jen and I will also be answering emails during this time.

Hope you have a great day!

My Family is Moving

I have so many emotions right now… Excitement, fear, sadness and yet at the same time, peace. It’s a little strange and I can’t wrap my head around it quite yet. We got a contract on our house 5 weeks after listing it and my husband and I have been working quickly to get everything ready for the move. With that said, my announcement today is that in just one week, my family is moving to Fairhope, Alabama. HollyDays will continue and the only difference you should notice is the return address on your package! Here’s what this means… I will be working from Fairhope…

{Here are some cute little pics from our About Us page…}

Jen returned from maternity leave this week and she will be working from home in

Birmingham, Alabama

 I’ll share more about our decision to move our family in upcoming posts, but for now, I just want to say thank you to my loyal local customers here in Birmingham… I am so grateful to you, as you were the ones who helped me get started! You bought my things when I was set up at a little table at a craft fair and you came back… you told your friends and your friends told their friends… and my business grew and grew. It has been such a pleasure getting to know so many of you on a personal basis. I will miss you!

We will be back in Birmingham in less than 2 months from now for
Christmas Village {October 31-November 4} & again for Cottontails Village {March 2-4, 2013}!

Here we go…

Holly’s Happy Finds {Monograms}

I’m a Southern girl and one thing I love is a good monogram. We Southern girls monogram our pillows, our stationery, pretty much anything we can stitch, paint or stick a vinyl monogram on (am I right, southern girls?) I decided to dedicate this weeks Holly’s Happy Finds to MONOGRAMS! Here are some of my favorites!

1- Monogram Ring :: It is now on my Christmas wish list! Handmade and available HERE.

2- This hat by Laroque in Columbia, South Carolina :: WOW – I’m not sure if I could pull it off, but it sure would be cute!

3- A jacket with a monogram :: I recently bought a jacket on clearance with the plans of adding a monogram. This one is cute by Tiny Tulip in Tallahassee, Florida.

4- My favorite thing is a large monogram on your door or wall. Last Christmas, I had a wooden monogram on my wish list and I LOVE it! This one in the picture is made by Southern Proper Monograms in Montgomery, Alabama.

 5- I am loving these hand painted bangles by Preppy & Pink. Their current wait time on them is 4-6 weeks due to their popularity and the time involved in hand painting each bangle.

Aren’t monograms so cute y’all?
